Unlike many design studios, our background is in horticulture and planting. This means every garden we design is built around plants that thrive in the conditions of your garden.

Testimonials

  • "I whole heartedly recommend Liz and her team. They have done a great job in my garden and were a real pleasure to work with. Nothing was too much trouble and changes of mind were taken in their stride. Liz and her team are really knowledgeable and I’m already looking at the next project for her.

  • Liz sourced and planted many, many plants for my garden, following a detailed design. The plants she sourced are of an exceptional quality and the finished garden is wonderful. Leading up to completing the project Liz's communication was excellent and her after-care has be just as good. She has answered questions about how I care for certain plants and visited the garden to review the health of some of the plants. She quickly diagnosed that they needed more water - she was right!

  • Liz and Tom did a grand job choosing the plants for our coastal to cottage themed garden areas. We now have a beautiful mix of grasses, coastal plants and herbs. Already we have bees and butterflies visiting our garden. The planting creates interest through the seasons. They have also replied promptly to any queries we have had. Thank you Liz and Tom

Garden Design Process

Let’s Talk

Your perfect garden will start with a conversation.

Free Discovery Call

After your initial enquiry, we’ll arrange a friendly phone call at a convenient time to talk through the basics of what you’re hoping to achieve with your new garden. We’ll discuss what you currently like (and don’t like) about the space, any ideas or inspiration you have, and your overall budget.

It’s also a chance for us to explain the full design process so you know exactly what to expect as we move forward.

The call usually takes around 20–40 minutes, and afterwards we can arrange a design consultation to take the next step in bringing your garden to life.

Your Garden Design Consultation

This is our first opportunity to explore your aspirations for your garden. During this initial consultation, we’ll talk about how you’d like to use the space — whether that’s dining, cooking, relaxing, entertaining, or something else — as well as the overall look and feel you’d like to create.

It also gives us a chance to walk around the garden and understand the existing environment, so we can see the opportunities the space offers as well as any limitations we need to consider.

These consultations usually take around an hour. Afterwards, we’ll write up a design brief for you to review and amend so we can make sure everything reflects exactly what you’d like from your garden.

Site Survey

Once you’ve reviewed the design brief and are happy with it, the next step is the site survey. This helps us gather all the important details about your garden, including its dimensions, terrain, soil type, and any existing trees or structures.

In many cases, a professional land survey will also be carried out to ensure everything is measured accurately. Whether this is needed will depend on the size and complexity of your garden.

The Design

When we understand what you want we can start the design process.

Concept Plan

Using the ideas and inspiration gathered in your design brief, we’ll create a Concept Plan for your garden. This is an early visual representation of the proposed design and helps bring the overall vision to life.

The concept will include a number of illustrations, a simple top-down layout of the garden with the proposed elements, and a visual mood board to capture the look and feel of the space.

At this stage, we’ll review the design together and discuss any ideas or adjustments you’d like to make before moving forward to the next step.

Master Plan

Once you’re happy to move forward, we’ll create the Master Plan. This is the detailed design that your landscaper will use to build your garden according to the agreed vision.

The plan will include a full layout of the garden, materials, levels, and any construction details that may be required. It provides everything needed to ensure the design is built accurately and to the highest standard.

Planting Plan

The final step in the design process — but by no means the least important — is the planting plan. Planting is the living, growing soul of the garden, and it needs to be carefully tailored to the garden’s specific environment.

The plan includes a scaled, top-down drawing that shows the position, quantities, and species of each plant within the garden.

You’ll also receive a picture plant list, detailed plant profiles (highlighting the key characteristics of each plant), and a maintenance schedule to help you or your gardener care for the garden as it grows and develops.

Tender Package

We can also help you find the right hard landscaper to carry out the build and guide you through the selection process.

As part of this, we’ll prepare and provide all the necessary design details for pricing and construction. We’ll also arrange a site visit with your chosen landscaper before work begins, so they have a clear understanding of the design and all the information they need before starting the project.

The Build

We offer optional further support after the design process is finished.

On-Going Support

We’re just as invested as you are in making sure the build runs smoothly and that you end up with the garden you’ve been dreaming of.

Throughout the build, we’re on hand to support both you and your landscaper — answering any questions that arise and helping ensure the finished garden stays true to the design.

Planting

GardenWild originally began as a soft landscaping and horticultural aftercare business. Over the years, we’ve implemented planting plans to a very high standard and have likely worked with many of the garden designers you may have heard of across North and West Yorkshire.

Because of our hands-on experience in soft landscaping and our strong horticultural knowledge, we believe the best people to bring our planting plans to life is our own team.
