The setting
Perched on a hilltop on the edge of Alwoodley, in Yorkshire's Golden Triangle, this half-acre garden enjoys sweeping views across the Aire Valley to Almscliffe Crag and Wharfedale. Beautiful, but exposed.

The approach
We began with tough, resilient planting to stand up to the wind. As it matured, it created sheltered pockets around the garden, and those gave us the chance to bring in softer, more unusual plants that would never have survived on day one.

A garden that grew with its owners
This is our longest-running Design and Evolve project, and we've had the joy of watching it transform year after year. As the garden grew, so did our clients' ideas. Today it's a rich tapestry of nostalgia and experimentation, with corners that recall the client's childhood alongside newer, bolder planting.

The result
When the time came to sell, in a difficult market, it was the garden that captured the new owner's imagination, and the main reason they bought the house.
