Arts and Crafts Restoration: Nidd Gorge, Harrogate

The setting
This three-acre garden surrounds a historic Arts and Crafts house, nestled in the ancient woodland of the Nidd Gorge. The house itself has recently been lovingly restored to its original glory.

The brief
Passionate about wildlife and habitat creation, our client wanted a garden that welcomes nature while complementing the original Arts and Crafts features. Our design blends naturalistic, cottage and formal styles, bringing house, garden and the surrounding countryside together in harmony.

The first phase
This is an ongoing Design and Evolve project that will eventually cover the whole three-acre site. We started with the area around the house. With building work still under way, our first task was to create a peaceful sanctuary where the clients could relax, away from the noise and the dust.

What's next
As the restoration continues, the garden will grow out into the wider grounds, phase by phase.
