North Facing Town Garden

A Town Garden by the Stray, Harrogate

The setting
This historic terraced house looks out over Harrogate's famous Stray. Hidden behind it is a long, narrow and beautifully complex garden. Paths weave its full length, pausing at a series of circular patios, while established yew and box hedges divide it into a patchwork of medium-sized borders.

The brief
The planting needed to invite both relaxation and exploration, with a feeling of movement and continuity from one end of the garden to the other.

The design
With the garden so divided by its existing hedges, we wove recurring themes through the planting to link each section to the next. These themes shift and evolve from border to border: each area has its own highlight, while echoing the planting around it.

The result
A naturalistic, peaceful garden that feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of Harrogate, just steps from the town.

Every GardenWild garden starts with a conversation.
